Well, our weekend didn't go quite as planned. We were supposed to go to Wilmington for Kendall's birthday party. Angie and Kendall were sick, so we weren't able to go, which is a shame. Liam hasn't met little miss Kendall yet, so we were really looking forward to that. We ended up just hanging around the house instead. We did go do a little shopping. We must have worn him out, because he took it out on me last night. I didn't get to bed until 5:10 this morning. Poor guy had a fussy night. The good news is that he got to wear khakis for the first time yesterday. I thought he was really cute, but the shirt kept riding up so Julie made us take it off after he wore it for about half the day. Here are a few pictures from yesterday.

Date Night
Last night Julie and I took a little time to still be a married couple. Becky came to town last night and watched Liam while we went out to dinner. Since he eats so often we couldn't go far, but we were able to enjoy a good meal. Plus, they had 1/2 priced wine, which is great! We got there soon enough that it would be out of Julie's system by the time Liam had to eat again, so she got to have a glass with me. They say you aren't supposed to talk about your kids when you take time to have a date night, but I think when your child is only 5-weeks-old that it is allowed. We didn't talk about Liam the entire time, but he did take up quite a bit of our conversation time. We also had a bet on whether or not Julie made me a mix CD in college. She swore she didn't, but I swore she did. Of course, the very first thing I did when we got home was go through my CD collection and found a CD with "From Julie B T" written on the front. I guess that means I was right...as usual! :-)
Our goal is to take some time like this at least every month and a half or so. We both know that Liam is our life now, but we don't want to forget about each other either. To be good parents we need to make sure that our relationship stays close and healthy. I'm glad we got to take some time for that last night. We ended up having a great time. Even if it was only for a brief time.

Adventure at Lake Benson Park
Wow! What a day today was. The weather couldn't not have been more perfect. So perfect, in fact, that I was willing to record the UNC basketball game and head to the park with the family and watch it later. If you know me, then you know that is a big deal.
Anyway, Julie and I took Liam to a park in Clayton and walked him for just over a mile around some ball fields and small pond. We decided to go to another park from there and headed to Lake Benson.
When we arrived we decided to go ahead and change his diaper and let Julie feed him before we went for our walk. When we opened the changing pad we found a newborn sized diaper and decided to go ahead and use that. Soon after, Liam started eating. While Julie was feeding him he let out some rather large rumbles from down under. And then there was more rumbles. And then a little more. And even more. You get the point. Here is the gross part. When she lifted him up, he had...ugh...rumbled through his diaper and all over Julie's pants! Hahahahaha! She found it to be quite amusing when he peed all over me at his photoshoot. You know what they say about payback? Not only that, but he had pooped so much that it shot out the top of his diaper and got on the upper part of his back and all over his shirt (we took his pants off before feeding him). We have decided that we are DONE with newborn sized diapers from this point forward.
Needless to say, he made quite the mess. It took numerous wipes and an extra diaper to clean it all up (please see exhibit A below). And lets just say, thank God that daddy has leather seats in his car.
Exhibit A
Yup. That is a big bag of you know what.
We had no extra clothes for Liam with us, so we almost headed back home. But instead, we decided to go all redneck and take our little man around the park with shoes, socks and pants, but no shirt. I carried him around like this for a while in one of those front carrier things while we walked the unpaved trails. We then moved him over to the stroller and walked to a shaded area and hung out with him in the grass for a while.
So that is our big story of the day. Liam blew Julie up!
Here are a few pictures from the park.

Welcome to our new family blog.
We decided to start this blog to keep family and friends updated on our new life adventure. Julie and I extended our family to include a beautiful little boy, Liam Tyler, born February 18, 2010. He weighed 8 lbs 5 oz and was 22 inches in length.
Yesterday Julie took Liam to the doctor for his one month visit. His weight has jumped to 10 lbs 9 oz. If you could see how much he enjoys eating, you would not be surprised by the increase in weight. While there, he had to get a shot. Julie said he screamed as if his arms were being pulled off. What made him cry so hard? One might assume it was the needle. Nope. It was the alcohol wipe they used to clean the area for the shot. He apparently thought it was quite cold.
It is incredible how much he has already changed in just a few weeks. He looked like a completely different baby at two-weeks-old compared to when he was born, and he has changed even more since. Here is a picture from the exact minute (2:39 pm) he turned one-month-old. Yeah, we are those parents.
We feel like we have truly been blessed with a gift from God. He has been a joy to have around the house. The second you get tired of hearing him cry, he makes a little sound and wrinkles his little forehead, which makes you laugh out loud and forget why you were bothered at all. It is just impossible not to love this little guy.
I am very thankful for the family that God has given me. I have always known that God gave me the most perfect companion in Julie, and now he has brought me a perfect son. I'm a very lucky man.
